Bed Sores in California VA Nursing Homes

Many cases of bed sores are happening at VA nursing homes across the state, including an army vet of whom suffered from bed sores, malnutrition, and septic shock in Livermore, California.

These unfortunate cases have caught the attention of 6 veterans groups, outraged at these preventable incidents of nursing home abuse and neglect.

The six groups represent nearly 5 million veterans who have risked their life for the country. Veterans should be well taken care of, and not have to be subjected to bed sores and other types of elder neglect.

Curt Cashour, a VA spokesman, said that the VA is always trying to improve the quality of their facilities across the country. Cashour also mentioned that many residents that the VA takes care of are usually worse off than regular nursing homes.

Luckily the VA released information on the quality of their nursing homes, however it took some fighting. These quality reports may include instances of poor living conditions and neglect to inform current and future residents.

Congress also passed a law in September that requires the VA to publish quality information about each facility.

Veterans, and people in general deserve a better quality of care. Most instances of nursing home abuse or neglect can be prevented. The fight continues, with bed sore cases springing up everywhere in California and across the United States.
