Bedsores Should Not Develop With Competent Nursing Care

Bedsores seem a natural part of being tied in bed, especially in elderly patients. The truth is that it elders should not develop pressure sores if the person is turned in bed often enough. Bedsores can be as small as a red point on the hip or thigh, or could be as severe as an open wound that goes all the way to the bone. Bedsores can be a sign of negligence and nursing home neglect.

Nursing home negligence is often much more common than most of us are willing to believe especially when it concerns decubitus ulcers, pressure sores and bedsores.

At the first signs of pressure ulcers, the situation should be urgently addressed. The area should be treated and the patient should be increased to a rotation schedule that is much more common, more than two hours between the rotation. It is possible that pressure ulcers can develop when first starting, such as when the new patient is bedridden, has lost some weight recently or have had previous surgical procedures performed.

However, if the pressure ulcer is not treated immediately with an aggressive response, then it is time to contact a lawyer. Lawyers can often find previously unseen and unnoticed neglect. Nursing home attorneys can identify abuse and neglect often faster and more efficiently than a family member involved emotionally.

Many people believe that bedsores are unavoidable. Many experts and even some thought that bedsores are a natural part of adaptation or always bedridden patients. A high-quality facility should not allow pressure ulcers to develop. Abuse can occur regardless of the price associated with the elders particular investment in the facility. Watch your elder very, very closely and as much as you can. Visit the facility, observe and talk to the elder.
