Amputation caused by severely infected bed sores: A 54 year old man’s leg was amputated above the knee as a result of a severely infected bed sore.
Bed sores also known as Pressure Sores and Decubitus Ulcers are a serious health threat to bedridden patients.
Bed sores are common problems in hospitals and nursing homes, and preventing them requires diligence on the part of caregivers.
Hospital and Nursing Home Staff are responsible for re-positioning elder and dependent adults at least every two hours in order to prevent Bed Sores, Pressure Sores and Decubitus Ulcers from forming.
Once though a Bed Sore has manifested the Health Care providers must take all appropriate interventions to prevent the Bed Sores from getting worse and possibly becoming infected.
