A California grand jury report entitled “Elder Abuse: The Perfect Storm” cited over 7,200 reports of adult abuse in 2011, with nearly 75 percent of cases involving seniors 65 or older in Orange County, California.
The report found seniors over 85 who suffer from dementia or other illness are as much as six times more likely to be victimized by abuse than their counterparts in the 65-84 age range.
Mnay of the elders are the victims of predators both financially and in long term care facilities, such as skilled nursing facilities who fail to perform their basic custodial duties. Many times the Elders are victims of poor or non-existent care (neglect) leading to bedsores, dehydration and malnutrition. Frequent urinary tract infections can become septic and will cause pre-mature death says Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect Lawyer Steven Peck. We must watch out!!!
