A Los Angeles, California client’s father died as a result of bedsores he received while living in a private nursing home in South Los Angeles. The report from the California Department of Health Care Services confirmed the specific allegations of neglect and abuse.
Doris Silver said her father, admitted to a Los Angeles based skilled nursing facility in August , 2017, contracted sepsis from an Ecoli infected bedsore which ultimately caused his death.
The medical records evidenced that the decedent developed several bedsores while at the facility. The facility though failed to advise the daughter of the seriousness of the bedsores, until October, 2017 when the facility indicated “the decedent had a couple of minor skin breaks”.
The decedent was finally taken to hospital ER, at which time he was in complete septic shock from the severely infected Stage IV bedsores.
Bedsores – also known as pressure ulcers – are one of several medical conditions considered to be “never events.” That is, they are preventable and should never occur. The medical records in this case are full of days in which proper care was not actually recorded.
