Cause of birth injuries: Birth injuries are routinely caused by careless, negligent and, or neglectful medical professionals. Out of approximately every 1000 births that occur in the United States, 7 of those births will have medical and sometimes life threatening consequences depending on the type and the severity of the birth related injury.

There are many types of birth Injuries that you should be made aware of including the following:

  • Large babies (babies over 8 pounds 13 ounces)
  • Prematurity (babies born before 37 weeks)
  • Cephalopelvic disproportion (the inadequacy of the size and shape of the mother’s pelvis)
  • Dystocia (difficult labor or childbirth)
  • Prolonged labor (labor lasting for a long period of time)
  • Abnormal birthing presentation (babies positioned breech or buttocks first prior to delivery)
  • Bilirubin
  • Brachial Plexus Injury
  • Brain Cooling
  • Structural or metabolic defects
  • Environmental causes
  • Multifactorial birth defects
  • Cleft lip and/or palate
