Hospital Patients Experience Abuse at Recommended Nursing Homes

Many elderly hospital patients may choose a nursing home based on the hospital’s advice if they felt like they were cared for well during their stay. Unfortunately just because a nursing home is affiliated with the hospital, or even shares a similar name, doesn’t mean that it’s a quality long term care facility.

In the case of 88 year old Elizabeth Fee the nursing home was a long shot from the care she had received at California Pacific Medical Center. After undergoing hip surgery at California Pacific, the hospital staff encouraged Elizabeth to stay at a ‘Skilled Nursing Rehabilitation Unit’ that they were affiliated with. Little did she know that nursing home had a rating of one star by Medicare; the lowest possible rating available.

Unfortunately this choice cost Elizabeth her life in 2012. This comes at a time where nursing home abuse and neglect is running rampant in California and throughout the United States.
