1Million Settlement: Travon Martin Wrongful Death Shooting

law-firm-blog-headlines1Million Settlement: Travon Martin Wrongful Death Shooting: The parents of Trayvon Martin reportedly have received more than $1 million in a wrongful death claim brought against the homeowners association in the gated community where neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman fatally shot their son on Feb. 26, 2012.

According to sources the settlement is more than $1 million, but attorney would not divulge the exact amount, saying in an interview when asked about the payout. the parties have agreed to keep the monetary total settled upon confidential.

Parents Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton had filed suit last August against Twin Peaks, the gated community in Sanford, Fla. where 17-year-old unarmed Martin was killed while walking to his dad’s girlfriend’s home after visiting the local 7-Eleven to buy some Skittles and iced tea.

The residential townhouse division was held liable because it touted killer George Zimmerman as the captain of the neighborhood watch and the go-to man residents should contact if they had any problems.

The Twin Peaks Neighborhood Watch newsletter first mandated to first call the police, then to “please contact our captain, George Zimmerman–so he can be aware and help address the issue with other residents.”

Defendant George Zimmerman, 27, now charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Martin, claimed he killed the teen in self-defense and was sent home by police on the night of the shooting.
