Nursing Home Abuse: Bed Sores a True Indication of Elder Abuse and Neglect

Elder Care AbuseWe see the same story and facts over and over again.  Elder or Dependent Adult is taken to a Long Term Care Acute Hospital Facility because of their health related issues.  After the patient is somewhat stabilized, the Elder / Dependent Adult is referred to another type of Long Term Care Facility usually a Skilled Nursing Facility or an Assisted Living Facility depending on the type of / or the level of care that that individual may need.  May of the transferred individuals are totally dependent on the facility for their activities of daily living, which may include feeding, bathing, walking, and eating.  Many times the infirmed residents of these facilities are unable to get out of bed making them  prone to acquire bed sores, pressure sores also known as decubitus ulcers says California Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect Lawyer Steven Peck Managing Partner of the Peck Law Group.

Peck Says ” The facilities fail to follow the Federal and State regulations, including their in house polices and procedures.  They fail to adequately care plan for the individual, thus neglecting in many instances to  make sure that residents both bedridden and wheel chair bound do not exert  continued pressure on their back side causing the breakdown of their skin.  When this transpires bed sores, pressure sores also known as Decubitus ulcer form causing pain and suffering, infection, and in many instances death.  All of this can be quite easily eliminated if the facilities responsible and getting paid to take care of their residents were actually watching what they were doing.
