Slip and Fall Accidents

Slip and Fall Accident Victim Speaking with Attorney in California

Most people think of a slip or fall at a public place as an accident, when in fact most of the time it’s a result of ignorance by the business owner. This ignorance can be incredibly hazardous and sometimes even life threatening to those involved which is why there are laws in place to protect the public.

Common Causes of Slip and Fall Accidents

Most slip and fall accidents can be prevented by proper signage put in place and common sense from the business at fault. There are many reasons these accidents that occur, including:

  • Wet Floors
  • Damaged pavement, such as cracks, holes, and trenches
  • Damaged carpets or faulty mats
  • Products or objects that create a tripping hazard

Not all slip and falls are the fault of the business. Sometimes due to our own carelessness we may not see a sign or warning and continue on anyway. So how do you know if you or the owner will be held responsible? Well, the owner of the business and its employees must have caused the hazardous conditions or should have known but did nothing about it.

Ontario Man Dies After Nursing Home Neglected Bed Sores

elder abuse and neglect news in California

Nursing home neglect can be just as bad as abuse because if a patient is taken care of correctly various conditions can arise, such as bed sores. According to Mayo Clinic, ‘Bed sores – also called pressure sores or pressure ulcers – are injuries to skin and underlying tissue resulting from prolonged pressure on the skin.’

Bed sores can be incredibly painful and can even result in death if left untreated. Allegedly that’s just what happened to 68 year old Ontario resident Arthur Ross Jones after the Revera Nursing Homes neglected to take care of him. A lawsuit is now being brought against Revera nursing homes, one of the largest long term care companies around.

Arthur was admitted to Revera due to his dementia and Parkinson’s disease. He was completely reliant on Revera, and after falling twice was bed-ridden for many days. His family alleges that even before the fall Revera Nursing Homes failed to give Arthur the proper care and attention.

Unfortunately suing a nursing home is often too expensive for families, so any damages awarded to the family wouldn’t even cover the costs. Therefore, DeKervor’s attorney, Amani Oakley, will be filing a class-action lawsuit in the hopes that others will come forward to make it more feasible.

Nursing Home Abuse in Nampa

elder abuse and neglect news in California

The latest nursing home abuse incident comes from a nursing home facility in Nampa, Idaho called Holly Lane Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. This isn’t the first bad news about this nursing home, though. Just recently there have been state and federal sanctions against the nursing home. Visitors of the residents at this facility reported that they noticed signs of abuse and neglect, with some happening years before the sanctions.

Stories from Nursing Home Abuse Patients

A man from Boise, Idaho had checked his 86 year old father into the nursing home, and only a week later checked him out. His concerns that the aides weren’t removing the fluid from his lungs made him remove his father from the facility, but unfortunately he died shortly after.

Carol Crist’s brother had cirrhosis and was admitted to the center for palliative care during his final days. She eventually removed him from the facility, stating in a long letter to the Idaho Commission on Aging stating that she was concerned by the lack of attention.

Another resident, Robert Rood, was so frustrated by being neglected that he simply stopped eating and drinking. This experience had prompted the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid to ban Holly lane from accepting new patients.

Many more people have reported similar incidents and action is currently being taken against the nursing home.
